I wouldn't hire someone that isn't the right fit for a job description, so WHY would I "hire" myself for any role in my own company that doesn't fit my skill set? I wasn't interested in climbing a corporate ladder to become a CEO (Chief Execution Officer), and that's not my vision for my own company either.
This does not make me any less of an entrepreneur to not also be CEO, but it's essential to unleash the potential of my vision. I strive to be a business owner, not owned by my business. I execute MY area of expertise, but I am not interested in being the expert in all areas or being Chief Execution Officer of all areas and that even means *gasp* in my own business! I've known several business owners and companies where CEO is an entirely different role than the founder. Yes, as entrepreneurs we wear many hats and are up against things like cash flow, competition, building credibility, collateral etc... and this is where it becomes a double-edge sword! How do we get established to even have this as a possibility? How do we bring on a competent person to execute other divisions, but not necessarily a partnership? I don't necessarily have all the answers, and I'm not quite sure how this vision will exactly play out, but the process is the adventure - not the destination. I do understand it begins with foundation and by restructuring my business I've been "gifted" with more clarity in the past 6 months to at least know which path I need to take. I am the "screen writer", the "solution provider", the "composer", but to get my "master-piece" to be heard I need to focus on what I do best and find the right people so they can do what they do best - that includes bringing on the experts of execution in their fields of expertise. I am seeking direction and clarity. I've been told I have the gift of connecting with the right people at the right time. It's okay to "let go" in certain areas to embrace what's ahead on the next level. Not everyone has this vision, but I'm excited to connect with like-minded people and cheer at each milestone, setback, and get on track.
